It’s about this man who just wants to read. His boss says he can’t and his wife is always taking books, magazines and newspapers away from him. This just seems absolutely ridiculous that his wife is such a bitch. She says he’s wasting his time with “drivel” such as David Copperfield or Robert Frost. Keep in mind that he’s not spending all of his time watching television, gambling, or drinking as some men did back in the 60s. He’s READING. And he isn’t even reading “stupid” things like gossip columns or poorly written texts. He’s reading great literary works, expanding his mind and finding joy as he works day to day as a bank teller (not an exciting job, I’m sure). I know that it’s one thing to be obsessed to the point of shutting the rest of the world off, but to go to the extremes of hiding books and ripping out the pages is ridiculous.
Poor Annie. All she wants to do is to have fun! All of her hard work can get exhausting after a while.
